Loss control consultants provide a wide range of services to cities
LMCIT consultants provide assistance in evaluating your city’s practices and overall liability regarding employee health and safety programs, as well as on-site assistance on police, fire, and employment liability. This complements guidance from the League’s HR & Benefits staff, LMCIT employment attorneys, and public safety project coordinator.
Employee Health & Safety
LMCIT consultants work with your city to reduce employee injuries. A five-year workers’ compensation loss analysis identifies trends, and guides efforts toward addressing common trends such as sprains and strains, slips, trips, and falls, and working on and around equipment. Using an aggregate analysis, consultants can compare your city to cities in the area, cities with similar populations, and cities with similar operations.

This includes a survey and inventory of some of the tools and equipment that are available to public works staff. Consultants provide input and suggestions on better tools/equipment and/or procedures to make certain high risk public works tasks safer in an attempt to reduce ergonomic (pushing, pulling, lifting, overexertion, etc.) types of injuries.

Property and Vacant/Abandoned Building Survey
A property survey involves a walk-through of the buildings to make recommendations on how the city can reduce potential property and liability exposures. This survey includes areas such as fire safety, Life Safety Code, and general liability. Vacant and abandoned properties pose both public and attractive nuisance exposures and can lead to unexpected property loss of metals such as copper and subsequent damage to the building.
